About

Welcome to Abstinent Kitchen – Where We Thrive In Food Freedom and Recovery!

I created Abstinent Kitchen for people like us – those who don’t have a “normal” relationship with food: the binge eaters, the secret eaters, the compulsive overeaters, the grazers, the emotional eaters, and the food addicts. For those of us who turn to food for comfort, for escape, to numb out, to avoid, and/or for control… and then feel trapped by it, leading to guilt and shame.

This space was born out of my own recovery journey through compulsive overeating, binge eating, exercise bulimia, and other food addiction behaviors. Working through 12 step recovery for food addiction created a radical transformation that positively affected my body, mind, and soul.

For years, I struggled in secret. The food noise (obsession) was unrelenting. I tried all the diets, detoxes, over-exercising, self help books, and all the guilt and shame that came with these. And none of it worked.

It was not until I finally surrendered to a sugar-free and flour-free abstinent way of living that the real healing began.

Recovery through the 12 steps and spiritual connection with my Higher Power didn’t just change what was on my plate. It changed my entire life.

Abstinent Kitchen is here to support you on that same journey.

Why Abstinent Kitchen?

Because abstinence is more than a food plan – it’s a spiritual practice.

Our kitchens are often the battlefield, but the kitchen can also be the birthplace of your recovery. I believe when we clean up our kitchens, we begin to clean up our lives. The kitchen was certainly the place my real recovery began. This site honors that truth with tools, practices, and actions for every stage of your food addiction recovery journey.
